Triveni Ghat is one of the holiest spots along the banks of the Ganges. Every morning, devotees gather here to take a holy dip in the sacred river, believing that it cleanses them of their sins. The name “Triveni” signifies the confluence of three sacred rivers: Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.
This spiritual meeting point gives the ghat its immense religious importance and makes it a must-visit destination for pilgrims and tourists alike.
The Ganga Aarti
The highlight of Triveni Ghat is the daily Ganga Aarti—a grand and mesmerizing ritual performed at sunset. Conducted by the Shri Ganga Sabha, the aarti is performed with full Vedic traditions by priests dressed in ceremonial attire.
There are three main types of Aartis held here:
- Mangala Aarti (Morning Ritual)
- Bhog Aarti (Afternoon Offering)
- Sandhya Aarti (Evening Ritual)
Among these, the Sandhya Aarti (Evening Aarti) is the most renowned. As the sun sets, the riverbank comes alive with the sound of bells, chants, and hymns. Oil lamps (diyas) float down the river, creating a divine and breathtaking spectacle. The experience is truly spiritually uplifting and visually enchanting.
How to Participate in the Aarti?
- The Sandhya Aarti takes place every day at sunset.
- In winter months, it typically starts around 6:00 PM.
- Participation is completely free for all visitors and devotees.
- No booking is required—just arrive early to get a good view of the ceremony.
If you wish to arrange a special aarti for your family’s well-being, you can inform the Ganga Sabha at least one hour in advance. Such personalized aartis are performed on request, and you can contribute a donation as per your devotion, which goes toward the arrangements of puja materials and Brahmin offerings.
