Thiksey Monastery Ladakh

Thiksey Monastery Ladakh

We went to Thiksey Monastery Ladakh that morning of winter when there was a scent of snow in Leh’s air. The shining white buildings on the hills seemed to be an city descending from the sky.

After covering a distance of about 19 kilometers from Leh, when we reached Thiksey, it felt as if the time had stopped. This monastery, situated on the top of the hill, not only relaxes the eyes, but also touches the soul.

Thiksey Soul: Huge Statue of Buddha

As soon as he entered inside the monastery, the first sight of Buddha fell at the first sight. This idol, sitting in a calm face and lotus posture, is saying — “Just sit down, look inside.”

I sat there and closed my eyes for a few moments. The movement of the outside slowed down and the inner noise too. Perhaps this was the magic of this place.

When the Mantras Echo in the Hills

The very next moment, the sound of the bells coming from the prayer auditorium and the sound of the mantras of Om Mani Padme Hum distracted… but this distraction was also like a meditation.

This prayer meeting done by monks in the monastery is an experience that can only be felt — not expressed in words.

Museum: Book of Tibetan Culture

I saw the layers of time touching the layers in the Museum of Thiksey Monastery. Every idol, every picture and every manuscript were telling the story of Tibetan culture.

Standing there, history is not a book, but a tradition of breathing — and the monastery is its temple.

When the Sun Kisses the Mountains

When the evening came in the evening, we saw the sunset from one corner of the monastery. As the sun slowly began to paint the snow-capped peaks in golden color — as if nature itself had raised the brush.

That scene is still inscribed in my memory.

Taste is Also an Experience

While returning from Thiksey, we tasted Thukpa and Momo in a nearby small cafe. Every morsel was saying — “You don’t just see, taste also to Ladakh.”

Thiksey Monastery Ladakh was not just a tourist destination for me — it became a spiritual experience, a dialogue with a culture, and an inner journey.

If you are going to Ladakh, then place Thiksey in the first place in your travel list — because here you will not only see Ladakh, but will also find yourself.
