Tso Moriri Lake Ladakh

Tso Moriri Lake Ladakh, located in the Changthang region of Ladakh, is one of the highest lakes in India. This lake gives an experience close to nature away from its blue clean water, calm environment and crowds. Most tourists know the Pengong Lake, but Tso Moriri Lake Lake is a hidden treasure known for its snow -covered mountains and rich biodiversity.

What makes Tso Moriri lake special?

Natural lake settled at height
The lake is located at an altitude of about 4,595 meters (15,075 ft) above sea level and comes completely inside India. It is about 28–29 km long and 8 km wide. Tso Moriri Lake is also famous as “Mountain Lake”. The lake is surrounded by icy and barren mountains from all around, which makes it even more mysterious.

The lake falls under Tso Moriri Wetland Conservation Reserve and is also identified as Ramsar Site, which increases its ecological and geographical importance.

Tso Moriri’s best time to visit

The time between May and September is best suited to visit Tso Moriri. During this time the snow melts, the roads opens and the lake is seen in its entire beauty.

It is not right to go here in winter, because the temperature falls too much, the lake freezes and many routes are closed.

How to reach Tso Moriri lake?

by the road:
This lake is about 220 km from Leh. You can reach here through a kissing or tso by a taxi or private vehicle. The journey takes 6 to 8 hours.

Public transport is limited, so it is a better option to go from a private vehicle or tour operator.

There is no direct rail connectivity. The nearest railway station is in Jammu.
